I started the month off strong with reading, and then in this last week, I maybe read about 10 pages in total. I also gave myself a moratorium on reading fiction because I want to finish my novel, and I really shouldn’t try to write fiction while reading it. So I decided to go for more poetry and audiobooks, which was a good break. I of course became too busy and otherwise engaged with life things to work on my novel, and now I want to read fiction again, but I’ll work something out. It did actually feel quite freeing to read things that I don’t usually give my full attention to; I read a fair amount of nonfiction and a few books of poetry a year, but never as the only thing I’m reading. It’s good to be only reading one thing at a time for a bit. I need to work on my focus and attention, and that’s a good way to do it.
