More cool things in my life! It’s early, but 2016 seems to have less suckage attached to it than 2015.
Today The Establishment had a moment of weakness and bafflingly decided to run my essay on why my Birthright Israel experience was terrible. That is so cool of them! And thanks to everyone for their wonderful responses.
My consulting business is starting to take off, so if you’re interested, check out my page here . One gig that’s not confidential is that I’ll be helping the gifted and talented department of the local school district here put together their Spanish-language literacy boxes for elementary schools!
Also, in the spirit of trying new things, I’ve become the person you hate, but I really hope you don’t hate me, because I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t care. I’ve joined Nerium International and am now your one-stop shop for skincare! Forgive me, but I’m lucky enough to have decent skin, and if you’ve spent five minutes with me, you know how vain I am about maintaining it. But now after being a product whore for ages, I can tell you that this is all I need, plus a little facewash and cold cream. Also, I don’t believe in supplements, but these definitely got me away from my second daily dose of caffeine, and now I’m back to one. So if you care to take a look, here is the thing I’m doing. You know it’s legit and quality, because we only sell four products. That’s it. There’s no need for other stuff. I’ll have a better blog post with photos and stuff soon, but here’s the link to the storefront if you want to try it out. (30 days trial or your money back! #sorry #donthateme)

I guess I’m sometimes into memes, but I also dropped the ball (no, not really) because I was too busy enjoying my actual real vacation that lasted more than three days, so I’m not putting this out until January, instead of all the other folks who do this at the end of the year. Anyway, I am not a wealthy person, nor am I generally speaking a person who does gifts for the holidays. But I do like gifting things to people I love when I think it’s something they will love, so this is my virtual basket of gifts for my favorite people.
So. The Best Stuff of Last Year for You to Try This Year: Skin Edition.
This was the year I finally learned how to find the right makeup for my face, how to look at my face to see where I actually need makeup (I’m old now, and my “perfect” skin is in fact not perfect without a little help), and how to consistently put it on every day. Huge! Here are the things that make my world go round. Continue reading →
Birchbox Travel (Photo credit: donireewalker)
Lately I have been thinking to myself that I should switch from being a book blogger to a fashion and beauty blogger, just to get some cooler different swag.
(I mostly kid. Please do not stop sending me book swag. I love the books. Forever. I might not have room for them in my apartment anymore, but they can share my bed.)
I would probably not be the best beauty or fashion blogger because, unlike when it comes to literature, I don’t have any specialized or advanced knowledge of this stuff. I recently started consistently wearing mascara. Sometimes I put on my primer and powder, too. For years, I was just an obsessive moisturizer and lip glosser. So this growing up, beauty-wise, is a big deal, friends. Anyway. I am trying to learn more about it (please read other of my blog entries to learn my general philosophy on fashion and beauty culture, the patriarchy, etc), because it’s high time I owned less clothing and beauty stuff but liked it more, looked better in it, and felt more confident in it. So I read magazines and blogs and sign up for things like Birchbox in order to get to that point where I have a general idea of what I’m doing.
Bookish people still have physical embodiments of their bookishness that needs to look presentable, and also, some of us, at least, happen to like the fun that comes with looking presentable, as blogs like Librarian Wardrobe will attest. This is why I have an entire Pinterest page dedicated to bookish, smartgirl, quirky clothing that I would love to have in my wardrobe in lieu of the things I have left over from college and 25 pounds ago.
